Some of the most tear-jerking photographs I’ve ever taken were these photos of Rae and Hyrum seeing each other at Hyrum’s military homecoming. The two hadn’t seen each other for months, and I was absolutely honored to get to capture this special, heartwarming moment for them.
Up to this point, I had always wanted to capture a military homecoming. Every time I see videos of families and couples being reunited with their military member, I start to cry. Seeing a military homecoming in person, and preserving this moment was something else! I started to cry behind the camera, while also smiling wide.
Rae and Hyrum love each other so much! Hanging out with Rae before Hyrum arrived was so exciting, she was so ecstatic to finally see him. Then when Hyrum came down the steps, they ran to each other in the most joyful, excited hug ever. It felt like the rest of the world faded away as I got to witness their joy seeing each other again, and it made my heart so happy.
