How to Stay Warm at Your Snowy Engagements

Snowy Engagement photos are so dreamy and so cute — but they are not for the faint of heart! If you’re willing to brave the cold for those tender snowy photos of you and your love, there are some things you can do to help mitigate the cold and stay warm!

Utilize hand warmers

I love bringing hand warmers for my couples and myself during our snowy photos! Though you won’t be able to use them while the photos are being taken, they are a great thing to use while I’m changing settings or while we’re moving between locations.

Layering

Wearing a couple different layers or a nice cozy sweater for your snowy Engagements will really help you stay warm! Make sure to bring your coat along (with the hand warmers in the pockets!) for in between locations and while I’m changing my camera settings. If you want to wear a dress for some of your photos, we’ll be sure to make that portion of the photoshoot quick, to avoid you spending too much time in a dress in the cold.

Warm Accessories

If it fits the vibe you are looking for in your photos, adding a cute hat, scarf, and gloves to your outfit is a great way to add a little extra warmth while taking your Engagement photos! If you only want these things included for one of your outfits, we’ll make sure to do that outfit last, to avoid needing to fix your hair when you take the hat off.

Choose the right footwear

My biggest suggestion is to choose a good pair of insulated, waterproof, warm shoes that will go well with both of your outfits! Keeping your feet warm will be a huge help in keeping the rest of you warm. You can also try wool socks for added warmth!

Use a blanket in your photos

Some of the cutest winter Engagements include a sweet couple wrapped up cozy together in a warm blanket. Not only will a blanket add warmth to your snowy Engagement Session, but it will look so cute in your photos.

Keep moving

A lot of the poses and prompts I use to direct you during your Engagement Session will involve movement, which not only gives us super cute photos, but helps you to stay warm. Make sure you keep moving between photos and locations to stay warm.

Have hot drinks ready in the car

Once the session is done, nothing is more delicious than a cup of hot cocoa after you’ve been out in the cold! Make sure you have a hot drink ready in a thermos, or find your nearest coffee shop after the session to get your body temperature a little higher.

Just remember — the cold will only last a little while, but these photos will last forever! If you can endure a little while of cold discomfort, these photos will be totally worth it and they will turn out so cute!
